Wildlife Sanctuaries in India

India is a land of the majestic Tiger and graceful Elephant, the magnificent Peacock and the giant Rhinoceros. It offers natural habitat to the wild animals in its Wildlife Sanctuaries and National Parks. It is a delight for natural lover.

The wildlife sanctuaries and National Parks spread across the country offer a fascinating diversity of terrain, flora and fauna. India has preserved vast tracts of forest and habitat in its 441 Wildlife Sanctuaries. So the Snowkids' want suggest that if you visit any of the following states, you should see these wildlife sanctuaries. Because you never know what will happen tomorrow ???

Andhra Pradesh

  1. Srisailam Wildlife Sanctuary which has an area of 506.94 km2.
  2. Manjira Wildlife Sanctuary which has an area of 20 km2. It was started in 1978.
  3. Nagarjunasagar Wildlife Sanctuary which has an area of 3568 km2. It was also started in 1978.

Gujarat

  1. Sansan Gir Wildlife Sanctuary which has an area of 1153.42 km2. It was started in 1965.
  2. Wild Ass Wildlife Sanctuary which has an area of 4953.7 km2. It was started in 1973.

Sansan Gir is the only existing wildlife sanctuary which consists of Asiatic Lion


Haryana

  1. Sultanpur Bird Sanctuary which has an area of just 1.43 km2. It was started in 1989.

  1. Idukki Wildlife Sanctuary which has an area of 77 km2. It was started in 1976.
  2. Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary which has an area of 472 km2. It was started in 1950.
  3. Wayand Wildlife Sanctuary which has an area of 344.44 km2. It was started in 1973.
  4. Aralam Wildlife Sanctuary which has an area of 55 km2. It was started in 1984.
  5. Neyyar Wildlife Sanctuary which has an area of 128 km2. It was started in 1958.
  6. Peppara Wildlife Sanctuary which has an area of 55 km2. It was started in 1983.
  7. Parambikulam Wildlife Sanctuary which has an area of 285 km2. It was started in 1973.
  8. Thattekad Wildlife Sanctuary which has an area of 1258.37 km2. It was started in 1981.

Karnataka

  1. B R Hills Wildlife Sanctuary which has an area of 539.522. It was started in 1987.
  2. Dandeli Wildlife Sanctuary which has an area of 834.16.
  3. Ranganathittu Wildlife Sanctuary which has an area of 1192. It was started in 1984.

Madhya Pradesh

  1. Karera Wildlife Sanctuary which has an area of 202.212. It was started in 1981.

Maharashtra

  1. Sanjay Gandhi Wildlife Sanctuary which has an area of 86.962. It was started in 1983.

Orissa

  1. Chilka lake Bird Sanctuary which has an area of 15.532. It was started in 1987.
  2. Bhitarkanika Sanctuary which has an area of 702. It was started in 1985.

  1. Sambhar Wildlife Sanctuary.

This is a Sambar. It is a vulerable specie.


Sikkim

  1. Kyongnosla Alpine Sanctuary which has an area of 31 km2.
  2. Singha Rhododendron Sanctuary which has an area of 43 km2.
  3. Barsey Rhododendron Sanctuary which has an area of 104 km2.

Tamil Nadu

  1. Mudumalai Sanctuary which has an area of 321.55 km2. It was started in 1978.

Uttar Pradesh

  1. Hastinapur Sanctuary which has an area of 20.73 km2. It was started in 1986.
  2. Kishanpur Sanctuary which has an area of 635 km2. It was started in 1992.
